The Lawrence House is Saskatoon’s Victorian Wedding + Event Destination

The History

The Lawrence House was built in 1906 and was originally located on Garfield St. in Hanley, SK. To some it is known as the ‘Merchant House’ as it was custom built for Mr. Amunds - a local merchant. It was the largest home in the booming centre of Hanley and its 12 stately Victorian rooms with tall ornate ceilings attracted many onlookers interested in the unique home.

Within years it was sold to Thomas & Maria Lawrence, who passed the home down through their family for decades. They were an entrepreneurial farming family who cared greatly for their community, with Thomas Lawrence and his son George being active members of the Grain Growers Association.

In 1975 it was sold to the Boehmer family, who moved it to its current location on a private acreage on the outskirts of Saskatoon, SK. It was then that it was painted from maroon to green, and the house finally received the modern updates of plumbing and electricity. It was passed through the Boehmer family until 2016 when purchased by its new owners.

The home has since undergone a 6 year restoration project aimed at preserving the authentic look and feel of the home to be enjoyed by many for decades to come.

The Restoration

The 6 year restoration project included:

Repaired and painted complete exterior
4 custom Victorian style bathrooms
Full custom Victorian style kitchen
Exposed and refinished hardwood floors
Restructured front porch and balcony
Additional antique tin ceiling tiles installed upstairs - restored tiles sourced out of old Moose Jaw hotels
Doors and hardware all in operating condition
Exposed and refinished brick chimney
Substantial wallpaper repair
Reused many original materials (wainscotting, wallpaper, trim) that was found in basement

Your Story

The Lawrence House hopes to help add to you and your family’s story when hosting your loved ones on your wedding day. Whether you would prefer a more intimate and unique “House Party” style wedding experience, or decide to expand the party into the yard to host all your friends, we are looking forward to having everyone over to the Lawrence House.

The home is available in the morning to get ready in and you are welcome to take photos throughout the home and yard during the day. There are several acres of quiet and serene pastures surrounded by forest that make for amazing photo ops. Feel free to decorate minimally, or bring in everything but the kitchen sink. We strive to make your wedding day as unique as you are.

Our acreage does not have a street address. Directions are provided via Google Maps and are easy to follow. A QR code linking to directions is also provided to be distributed to guests for ease of transit. Guests may use Riide Taxi Service and your event will be in their driver’s calendar. Priority parking for 6-8 vehicles near home, additional parking will park in adjacent pasture. House interior is not wheelchair accessible.
